The Clergyman's Daughter, by Julia Jeffries, was published by Signet in January 1983. Jessica is the widow of Andrew Foxe and her marriage was deemed a mistake by his aristocratic family. However, now that she is a widow, they won't let her go, especially the Earl, her brother in law!
The hero looks angry in this cover by Allan Kass. Maybe morose is a better adjective as he's left his horse to see the heroine! Her brunette prettiness is simple but elegant. I think the large art portfolio she carries is almost overwhelming but the cover is picturesque.
